Sri Lankans are sports-conscious people, favourite games being cricket and rugby. Many sports clubs and associations accept foreign visitors as temporary members. Also, most of the major hotels have swimming pools and tennis courts.

Surfing and Windsurfing 
Surf boards to suit different skill levels as well as wetsuits, fins and body boards can be hired from many shops, hotels and guest houses in Hikkaduwa from Rs 50 per hour and upwards. Midigama and Polhenha also offer some hire facilities. An hour's windsurf will cost around US$5 or US$100 for a ten- hour course. All tour operators should offer full briefings and go through overboard drills before you set off.
